Game Designer Pathways

Game design has many different areas of the professionals specialize in from programming, graphic arts, storytelling, audio production, animation, virtual reality and more. If you are interested in pursuing a career in game design there are two pathways/clusters at LAHS you can pursue, game design programmer or game design artist.

Game Design: Programmer

This pathway is for students more interested in the programming side of game design. 

Semester 1

Learn the basics of game design using Unity including scenes, assets, graphics, programming, animation, and more. 

Semester 2

Learn the basics of Java programming the first semester of the class.

Semester 3

Finish the curriculum and prepare for the AP Computer Science A exam.

Semester 4

 Create your own unique games using code that you wrote.

You can also prepare to take the Unity’s Certified User: Programmer Certification. More exam details can be found in this link. 

Game Design: Artist

This pathway is designed for students who are more interested in the graphic arts side of game design, creating the graphics for the game like the characters, scenes, rigs, and animations.  

Semester 1

Learn the basics of game design using Unity including scenes, assets, graphics, programming, animation, and more. 

Semester 2

Computer Graphics and Modeling 1
or
Photoshop
or
Illustrator

Learn the artistic skills so that you can start creating your own assets for use in Unity. 

Semester 3

Computer Graphics and Modeling 1 or 2
or Computer Animation
or Photoshop
or Illustrator

Advance your computer graphic skills so that you can create more advanced graphics for your game like animations and rigged characters. 

Semester 4

Put your 2D and 3D artistic skills to use in Unity creating complex animations, rigged animations, and entire worlds.
