Programmer Pathways

If you are interested in pursuing computer programming as a career, here is a pathway of classes that can give you some experience. Most people who pursue programming as a career get a bachelor’s degree in computer science. These classes will prepare you to enter college with some prior computer science experience. There are industry certifications for specific languages, but most are post bachelor’s degree level, so I don’t discuss them here.

Semester 1

Learn some basic programming and how the computer works.

Semester 2

Learn the basics of Java programming the first semester of the class.

Semester 3

Finish the curriculum, prepare for and take the AP Computer Science A exam.

Semester 4

Advanced Computer Science Projects

Apply your programming skills to create something. Design an app, build a Internet of Things product using and Arduino or Raspberry Pi and more.
